The standard we work to
This site is built to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, version 2.1, at Level AA. That is the benchmark the Department of Justice and the federal courts point to when they apply the Americans with Disabilities Act to a website, and it is the standard we hold ourselves to whether or not a court ever asks.
What that means in practice
- Every page can be operated with a keyboard alone, including the Services menu and the mobile menu. Nothing needs a mouse.
- Every control shows a visible focus ring when you tab to it, in a color that stands out against whichever background it sits on.
- A skip link at the top of every page jumps straight past the navigation to the content.
- Every page has one main heading and headings that step down in order, so a screen reader can be used to navigate the page structure.
- Every image carries alt text that describes what it shows, and images that are purely decorative are marked so screen readers pass over them.
- Every form field has a label tied to it, and required fields are marked with the word “Required” rather than by color alone.
- Text color meets or exceeds the 4.5 to 1 contrast ratio against its background. We ran a full pass over the site and corrected everything that fell short.
- If your system is set to reduce motion, the site turns off its animations and reveals rather than fading content in.
- The layout reflows down to a 320 pixel wide screen without any horizontal scrolling, so it works zoomed in or on a small phone.
How we test it
We run an automated scan with axe-core across every page on the site, and we walk the site with a keyboard by hand, because automated tools catch roughly half of what matters and miss the half that involves judgement. We test again whenever we add or rebuild a page.
Where we know we fall short
Our forms are rendered by a third-party plugin, and we do not control every attribute it outputs. We style and correct what we can reach, and we test the result, but a future update to that plugin could change something without us knowing until the next scan.
We are not going to claim this site is perfect. Accessibility is something you keep working at, and if you hit something that does not work for you, that is a defect on our side and we want to hear about it.
Tell us about a barrier
Write to team@apexestatepartners.com with the page address and what happened. It helps if you can tell us the browser and any assistive technology you use, but send it either way, even if all you can say is that something would not work. We will acknowledge you within two business days and tell you what we are doing about it.
If something on this site is unusable for you and you need the information now rather than after we fix it, say so and a licensed producer will go through it with you by phone or on a Zoom call, on your schedule, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm Eastern.
